Why The Calendar Matters

The biggest challenge of maintaining this calendar has always been finding a reliable web hosting company. In January, I decided to start all over with WordPress. It’s a bit more work for me because the other calendar was customized by my husband to update on its own, but it’s worth every minute of my time to keep producing this monthly calendar.

Why? Two reasons: the ordained priesthood is a gift from the mind of God, that sprung forth from the depths of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and continues on for you and I through the workings of The Holy Spirit. The gifts of the ordained priesthood and The Most Holy Eucharist are abundant and lavish blessings God pours out at every minute for all of humanity, not just Catholics. As Catholics though, we bear a huge responsibility to continually thank God for these priceless gifts. We must also give our spiritual support daily to the men God calls to the priesthood. Priests are men with generous and courageous hearts; but they are also subject to all the human frailties and temptations that lay people are. If they weren’t, how could they dispense God’s abundant mercy, particularly in the confessional?

I don’t think a lay person can ever really understand the depth of the relationship that exists between God and a Priest, although The hymn, The Summons, provides a very moving summary:

Will you come and follow Me if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?…Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen and admit to what I mean to you and you in Me?…Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around, through My sight and touch and sound in you and you in Me?

March 28, 2013 is Holy Thursday, the anniversary of both the Priesthood and the Institution of the Eucharist. Will you let the Priests of the Camden Diocese know what they mean to us?

This Easter season, thank all of your parish priests for the gift of their vocations.

Make sure this monthly calendar (www.camden priests.org) is used in your parish and linked to your parish’s website. Pray every day for living and deceased priests.

If your means allow, please have Masses said in your parish for The Priests in the Camden Diocese and Deceased Priests and leave us a comment when you do.
